Composting is as simple as 1, 2, 3, 4. There are only four ingredients you need for a basic compost recipe:

1. Carbon (brown, dry, wood-related materials like brown leaves)
2. Nitrogen (fresh vegetative materials such as fruit and vegetable kitchen scraps, or grass cuttings)
3. Air (vents in the composter are designed for oxygen flow)
4. Water (decomposition relies on adequate moisture)
